My work as an editor and web editor for BIBA Medical involved everything from the day-to-day management of the seven BIBA Publishing medical news websites, to the production of a quarterly specialist newspaper, Spinal News International.
Working with physicians, engineers and researchers, I produced content from short news pieces to long-form features on everything from cutting-edge medical research to politics, conflict and the world of sports and entertainment.
I wrote, edited, sub-edited and uploaded content for all seven websites, finding the best stories and images for inclusion in each site’s bi-weekly newsletter.
During my time as editor, I consistently grew Spinal News International‘s social media and web following. I grew the publication’s e-newsletter subscription base from 4,000 to 16,000 during my tenure.
I led the 2015 re-launch of the Spinal News International brand, working closely with our designer, sales team and head of publishing to create the perfect logo, layout and website design for a fresher, cleaner publication.
Working closely with our digital marketing manager, I also helped to re-launch the other five existing websites on a modern, responsive platform. As part of a close-knit team, I supported the launch of our seventh website and newspaper, Venous News.
For Spinal News International, I also worked closely with the business development team to secure and produce consumer-focused commercial content for our advertising clients.
Specialist medical conferences across the world provided the perfect reporting opportunities. I used them to gather news, spot trends, interview key attendees and liaise with current and potential advertising clients.
As part of a team of editors, I also provided the official daily news coverage for specialist conferences at home and abroad, including the Charing Cross Conference, EuroPCR, and the largest cardiovascular conference in the world—ESC. Academic conferences also provided the opportunity to edit and sub-edit conference articles, and even write conference abstracts and presentations.
